Post & Rail
Fencing.

Hand-built timber post and rail fencing across Cornwall, Devon and Somerset. Strong, clean lines designed for farms, paddocks, estates and rural boundaries — built to stand up to daily use and exposed conditions.

Quality Timber Fencing, Built to Last

Post and rail fencing is one of the most traditional rural boundaries in the West Country, and it remains the right choice where strength, appearance and longevity matter. Fred Hill Rural & Groundworks installs professionally built post and rail fencing across Cornwall, Devon and Somerset for farms, equestrian yards, private estates and country properties.

Every line is set out properly, posts driven or set firmly into the ground, and rails fixed with care so that the finished run looks as good as it performs. We work with pressure-treated softwood as standard and can supply hardwood or sawn rail on request, matching the spec to the use.

Where Post & Rail Fencing Is Used

  • Paddock and equestrian fencing — safe, visible boundaries for horses and ponies.
  • Estate and driveway fencing — clean lines for entrances, drives and parkland.
  • Farm boundaries — robust enclosure for cattle, livestock and machinery.
  • Garden and amenity fencing — traditional rural appearance for country homes.

Our Approach

We turn up on time, set the line out carefully and finish the job properly. Where the ground is rocky, soft or sloping — common across Cornwall and Dartmoor — we adapt the method to suit, hand-digging or rock-drilling as needed rather than forcing a quick fix that fails in a season.

Combine post and rail with stock netting for a livestock-secure boundary, or pair it with new access tracks as part of a wider farm improvement.

Areas Covered

Based in St Austell, we work across the whole of Cornwall, Devon and Somerset. Common locations include St Austell, Truro, Bodmin, Liskeard, Launceston, Tavistock, Okehampton, Exeter, Tiverton, Taunton and surrounding rural areas.
