Levelling, excavation and access track installation across fields and woodland in Cornwall, Devon and Somerset — durable routes for vehicles, livestock movement and rural land use.
From a single farm track to a full site preparation, Fred Hill Rural & Groundworks carries out practical groundworks across Cornwall, Devon and Somerset. We dig, level, strip, surface and finish — turning awkward, soft or overgrown ground into something that can actually be used and driven on.
Most of our work is on private rural land: farms, woodland, smallholdings, estates and sites with restricted or difficult access. We bring the kit and the experience to deal with wet ground, slopes and the kind of unmarked obstacles that come with old land.
A properly built track makes the difference between a field you can use year-round and one that's a write-off by November. We design and install access tracks for:
Build-up varies with the ground and the loading — typically a stripped formation, geotextile membrane, graded sub-base and a finishing layer of stone. We size each layer to the job rather than running a one-size-fits-all spec.
Cornwall and Devon throw up everything from rock-shallow moorland soil to deep clay and bog. We bring a range of excavators and machinery and pick the right tool for the ground rather than forcing the wrong one. For sensitive sites we can also carry out ecological groundworks with low-ground-pressure plant.
Working across Cornwall, Devon and Somerset from our St Austell base — including the Roseland, Bodmin Moor, North Cornwall, the Tamar Valley, Dartmoor, Mid Devon, the Blackdown Hills, Exmoor and the Somerset Levels.
